KEY MARKETS FOR ISLAMIC INVESTMENT

AFRICA
A number of African markets have delivered some of the world’s strongest returns over the past 5 years, despite global perceptions of high risk. A large portion of the African market has undergone considerable change, offering Saudi’s investors the opportunity to invest in the growing market (AMEinfo.com). In 2009, a consortium of Saudi Arabian agricultural companies announced their plans to invest $40 million into food production in Africa (Reuters).

ASIA
Malaysia and Saudi Arabia are to set up a $2.5 billion fund to invest in gas, oil, renewable energy and real estate and to drive foreign direct investment from the Middle East into Malaysia (Malaysiainfocus.com).  Additionally, the chairman of Saudi Arabia’s Commerce and Industry Chambers Council, Mohamed Abdulkader al-Fadel, revealed that Saudi investors launched agricultural projects in Indonesia worth $1.3 billion in 2008. Indonesia is among countries prospected by Saudi investors under a government-sponsored push for agricultural investment outside the kingdom to secure food supplies. The countries also include Sudan, Ethiopia, Egypt, the Philippines and Turkey.  (soytech.com, Emirates Business 24/7)

MIDDLE EAST
Saudi investors have announced their plans to pump US$1 billion dollars in new investments in several Yemeni cities over the next five years. This came as Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh has vowed to provide all the moral and legal support to open new doors for Saudi investors. (Al Bawaba Business).

EUROPE AND THE AMERICAS
Sanabil al-Saudia, Saudi Arabia's $5 billion investment firm has previously announced ambitions to tap into European and U.S. markets with the goal of bringing in added value to the Kingdom in the form of technology, management and marketing (Reuters). Earlier this year, Saudi Finance Minister Ibrahim Abdul Aziz al-Assaf said Thursday Saudi Arabia would invest a total of 400 billion U.S. dollars in Turkey in four years. H.E. Abdulrahman Bin Ali Al Jeraisi inaugurates first edition of MENA Investors Summit 2009

MENA Investor awards recognizes excellence in investment strategy by MENA based leaders.

Riyadh, November 2nd, 2009 - Chairman of Riyadh Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Abdul Rahman Ali Al Jeraisi inaugurated yesterday the first edition of ‘Mena Investors Summit 2009’. The event is currently taking place at the Four Seasons Hotel in the Saudi Capital and will continue till tomorrow. Present at the opening was Mr. C. Scott Ragsdale, Chairman of naseba Group, along with an extensive presence from investors, representatives of royal families and leading businessmen from different sectors around the region.

The event hosted the ‘MENA Investor Awards 2009’ which aimed at recognizing excellence in investment strategy by MENA based leaders in investments and finance.
